Skin Care FAQ

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRO POWER PEEL

* Pro Power Peel cannot be performed on all skin types or conditions. It is required to call for a consultation with our Skin Therapists prior to scheduling the peel to determine if it is right for your skin. This consultation can be incorporated into a facial treatment or done separately.

Why Do I Need It?

Chemical peels are one of the most popular professional skin care services today because they can improve the quality, texture and tone of the skin. But they can also produce severe side effects such as inflammation, discoloration and scarring for up to several months. This actually will age the skin more by damaging the delicate skin structure. With Pro Power Peel, you can get the same powerful results without the risks or downtime. In fact, your skin will look and feel healthier than ever! It was designed to work with the skin's chemistry, not against it. Our skin therapists custom design your treatment for your specific skin needs and concerns.

What Can I Expect?

Most clients experience noticeable results within 2-3 treatments, from fewer wrinkles and fine lines to smoother texture and reduced breakouts. It may take up to 6 treatments to achieve desired results. Your skin therapist will advise on the best course for your skin.

Post Treatment

Your skin condition, skin concerns and dedication to post-treatment care will impact the frequency and results of Pro Power Peel treatments. Ideally, a series of 3 treatments are performed over a 6-12 week period, followed by maintenance treatments twice a year.  Immediately after your Peel treatment, your skin may appear red and flushed. As your skin goes through the renewal process, it is normal to experience dryness, redness and tightness, as well as some peeling or flaking within a week. You may also notice a temporarily more pronounced appearance of pigmentation as it rises to the skin surface. These side effects will subside quickly with post-treatment care, starting with the Pro Power Peel After Care Kit that is included with each treatment. It contains enough product for 3-5 days post-treatment and it is recommended you ONLY use the products in this kit for the 3 days following treatment. After your kit is gone, you may resume your normal skin care routine, and our skin therapist will recommend a routine for you to maintain lasting results.

How often do I need Pro Power Peel treatments to maintain results?

Our Skin Therapist will prescribe a series of 3-6 treatments depending on your skin concern and skin condition. Multiple series may be performed to achieve desired results. We only perform peel treatments when there is less instance of UV sun exposure (ideally in Michigan from September through early May), but if you plan on taking a vacation and having prolonged UV exposure, we will recommend you wait to get a peel treatment.

When can I expect to see results?

Results will depend on your skin condition and how frequently you receive Pro Power Peel treatments. As with any skin care regimen, results can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to show, as this is how long it takes for skin to renew itself.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for Pro Power Peel treatments?

Once your skin care expert determines you are a candidate for Pro Power Peel treatments, she may prescribe a Dermalogica product pre-treatment regimen specific to your skin condition. As a general rule of thumb, it is good practice to discontinue use of prescribed exfoliants (such as Retin-A or Renova) at least 48 hours prior to, and during, Peel treatments.

I used to take Isotretinoin (also known as Accutane). Can I receive Peel treatments?

Yes, but only if you've been off Isotretinoin for more than 6 months. Please check with our skin therapist regarding any prescription medication you are on and how long you should be off it before beginning treatment.

I'm pregnant. Can I receive a Pro Power Treatment?

No. Pro Power Peel contains Salicylic Acid, as well as other types of alpha hydroxy acids, ingredients that are not to be used on pregnant or lactating women.
